If you ever get the opportunity to go to Dubai, make sure you visit Dubai Mall. The mall is abuzz with activity; lots of entertainment, lots of retail stores where you can shop till you drop, lots of restaurants, and lots of attractive sights and leisure activities.
When on our recent visit there with my five-year old son Kitty, one of our favorite hangout places was Dubai Mall. We stayed at the Le Meridien Hotel (I wrote about our experience at the hotel here), from where we’d take the metro train to get to Dubai Mall –which would take around 15 minutes. Once at the Mall, the first thing Kitty would say is that he wanted to see the ‘diving people’ as he called them.
Who these ‘diving people’ are, is an artistic presentation of a human waterfall. The divers, made from fiberglass, ‘plunge’ from the top of the mall against cascading waters in the background, making for an exciting attraction. The ‘diving people’ are designed in a way that they reflect sunlight during the day and are well-lit at night. So whatever time of day you’ll be at the human waterfall, it will be a spectacular sight.

The mall has four floors, with the human waterfall running through all of them such that whatever floor you’re at, you can see the divers. If you’re with your family, there are lots of eateries around the ‘diving people’ -a charming place to have a meal.
Those diving humans of Dubai Mall were all that and more. We really enjoyed watching them and taking tens of photos with them. So anytime you’re in the Middle East, make sure you visit Dubai Mall because, aside from the human waterfall, there is the Dubai Aquarium and the Burj Khalifa, which I’ll talk about in subsequent posts.
Kitty and I had made our way to Dubai from Nairobi via Emirates, which was yet another highlight of our travel. The in-flight service was exceptional, especially for Kitty. What did he (we) enjoy about the flight?

You can read about our in-flight Emirates experience here.
So if you’re going to Dubai with your family, I’ll recommend the following:
- A visit to Dubai Mall where you’ll see the ‘diving people’
- Fly Emirates. The experience for you and your children will be absolutely worth it.
